The Brahmaviharas provide a refuge, a way of meeting the difficult, painful aspects of life with kindness and compassion. Metta (Friendliness or Lovingkindness) is the first of the four Brahmaviharas. Karuna (Compassion) for ourselves and others. Mudita (appreciative joy) and Upekkha (Equanimity). When we are overcome with fear, sadness, despair, any of these incredibly difficult emotions, it becomes difficult to be present with what is here right now and to move forward with wisdom. Try these practice for yourself and see what you notice.
